Module 03 · A Home For Your Music
Lesson 2
Digital Service Providers (DSPs) & Tracking Codes
Your distributor pushes your music to DSPs — Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon, Deezer, plus social platforms (YouTube Content ID, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
With every release the distributor generates two codes:
- ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) — assigned per song, used to track sales and radio plays of singles. Mediabase tracks airplay through your ISRC.
- UPC (Universal Product Code) — unique album code, used to track album purchases. Billboard reads UPC data to chart first-week sales.
Without these, music organizations can't track or report on your music.
