Module 04 · Collecting Abroad — Songtrust

Lesson 1

Songtrust — International Publishing Admin

Only three PROs collect in the U.S. As your music plays overseas, there's a separate process to collect international royalties.

Historically, you'd build relationships with PROs country by country and ship metadata to each one. Slow, error-prone, easy to miss money.

Songtrust is a publishing administrator that handles this for you: they distribute metadata, register your work globally, and collect international + mechanical royalties.

  • One-time $100 registration fee.
  • They also forward your metadata to your PRO.
  • Collaborators not on Songtrust must be registered as outside writers.

If you have any international streams or plays, Songtrust (or an equivalent admin like CD Baby Pro Publishing or Tunecore Publishing) is non-optional.
